E. Project Description
The project would renourish the beach area at the DIPOA Isle Dauphine Complex on Dauphin Island. This area is a protected swimming area open to the public. This area offers a safe area for families with small children to come and enjoy the beach. Over the past 10-15 years the area has sloughed off into the Pelican Bay area on the South shore of Dauphin Island leaving a barely usable beach area, only 10' to 15' wide. Many people now want to put their gear in the Dune area prior to the beachfront. This is starting to erode the quality of the dune area prior to the beach. The project we propose would acquire sand from the adjacent offshore area of Pelican Bay out about 175'. The area of beach enhancement would extend along the shore from east to west for approximately 2600 linear feet .With the dredging of the sand material from the bay bottoms, a swimming area and recreational watersport area with a maximum depth of 5' would be created. At this time the depth is only about 25"to 34"average throughout this area. This area would have a slope of 10 to 1 over the entire area extending out 175 feet from shore Southward. With this enhanced area more tourist from the surrounding areas would come and enjoy the beach, and with more visitors, more jobs to work the beach area would be created. with more visitors comes more tax dollars for the Town Of Dauphin Island.
